Perhaps one of the biggest problems we find is that homeowners often start planning their home theater after construction has already began. The architect has already dedicated a space in the home for the "theater".  However, there are often many questions that have never been asked or considered.

The success of your room will depend greatly on how much forethought and planning go into that room. For example you'll want to consider the size and shape of your room. This will have a profound affect on the sound quality of the room. You'll also want to think about your seating/furniture arrangement. This will determine things such as floor levels, screen and speaker placement, and lighting needs.

Another point for consideration is how do you see your home theater being used? Is it going to be for sporting events, movies with guests, gaming for the kids and grandchildren, etc.? This may have an impact as to how you want to protect the screen and design the floor space needed in front of the screen. This in turn will help in designing your proscenium or stage.

Of course, a major consideration is always budget. How much you allow for your home theater will determine the options that are available to you. Often times, we can work with you, your architect, your designer, and your builder to come up with things that may help you to put more into your theater. If you try to cut too many corners here, you will end up with nothing more than a glorified and overpriced TV viewing room that will seldom be used. On the other hand, with proper planning you will end up with a room that most people will never want to leave. It will be a space for family and friends to gather and enjoy time together. Most of our clients tell us they will never go to a commercial theater again. They just wait for the movies to come out on DVD so they can watch it in their own home theater.
